Couple buys dream home in Essex through Shared Ownership

“A friend used Shared Ownership and recommended it. We love the fact we are paying something off for ourselves."

Mia and Josh found their dream home in a location they always loved

The couple purchased a 30% share of a two-bedroom semi-detached house with a private garden for £102,000. They found their dream home thanks to an advert on Instagram and are now enjoying the good life in the peaceful Essex countryside

“We started searching for a property in 2019 then Covid put our plans on hold. We have only recently moved in and even though it feels like a long time in the making, it was worth the wait. We are keen surfers and being close to the water is ideal for us. We have always loved this area, in fact I used to visit Maldon regularly as a child with my family. Living here centrally locates us amongst our friends and families and there are so many nice walks right on our doorstep. The High Street is lovely with lots of small businesses, coffee shops, restaurants – we love Sark, the local Turkish restaurant. There is even a footpath from Limebrook Walk to the local pub, The Royal Oak – which is handy!.”

Shared Ownership gives former renters security and independence

Josh and Mia were renting an annexe in Basildon but wanted more space for them to enjoy with their four dogs Boo, Rolo, Tigger and Rocket. Shared Ownership enabled the couple to achieve independence and feel the security they could not find when renting.

"A friend of ours had used Shared Ownership and recommended it to us, given I am self employed it was the only option for us to be able to afford to get onto the property ladder. We love the fact we are paying something off for ourselves and not totally lining the pockets of someone else, our plan is to staircase to the full amount. When we added up how much we have paid in rent over 11 years, we could have paid off our mortgage. Owning a house with a garden in such a great area is a dream for us. We are both really into gardening and one of the things we are most excited about is being able to grow our own herbs and veg, bringing in lots of wildflowers to help the pollinators and have more space for the dogs. The front garden is the first thing we are going to do.”

Peabody New Homes creates sustainable new build homes

“Buying a new build home we knew the energy efficiency would be much better, the house is well insulated and my brother, who is a builder, said it is a very good quality build, so that gave us peace of mind. We love bees and are passionate about the environment, you can definitely see this is something Peabody New Homes have thought about – there are even Hedgehog Highways throughout the development, the consideration to the environment was a big plus for us.”

Peabody New Homes also creates homes and communities where people love to live. Speaking about Limebrook Walk, Josh says “The development is just so nice, everyone is really friendly; we love the open feel to it, the wide roads and green spaces. It’s so quiet here and doesn’t feel over-developed, it is really peaceful and located semi-rurally. There is even a resident hare who does the rounds, everyone knows him – we should really come up with a name for him! I came home from work the other evening and saw an all-white deer crossing the road, it was quite a surprise.”
